Marty Tool Review: This review is for the 2018 full novel version of a previous novella. A knight trying to get home from the middle East to see his brother and mother before Yule becomes embroiled in a fairy tale courtesy of an angry djinn. At the same time a young women refusing to marry except for love is heading to the convent to spend the rest of her life. Along the way the woman is suddenly alone in the forest and fearing the wolves being after her seeks shelter at a strange palace.

An Ember in the Ashes was one of my favourite books from the past few years so it's only natural that I counted down the days to the sequel. In fact, I found out my local book shop had it stocked a couple days before the UK release date, so I frantically ran over and recruited the bookseller to help me find it. Sandra Review: 3.5 stars I wasn't so sure about this one. I've listened to all the other books of the series as audio books, and wasn't sure how the series would translate to written for me. I didn't like how judgmental Donner was of Calder. The addition of him having a different skin color actually made it very poignant and more uncomfortable.

But Calder was so easy going and good natured, not to mentioned understanding. We learn that the Christmas Elves do have genuine reason to be fearful of the Dockalfar,
