Sarah Review: I didn't think I would like this book as much as I did so I'm very pleasantly surprised! I requested it on NetGalley because it sounded intriguing and now, I'm so glad that I did! Historical fiction is a genre I have sort of shied away from in the past because I wasn't a big fan of history in school but I thought this was wonderful and the kind of book I would like to read on a regular basis. Actually thinking about it, the few historical fiction books I have read (Salt To The Sea, All The Light

Kuzu Review: Note: received an ARC from Netgalley, this is the second in a series and I haven't read the first but there's a Star of David on the cover of this so I wanted to see how it dealt with Jewishness (spoiler: it doesn't). Therefore judging this book on its own merits alone and not as part of a series.

I honestly don't have anything good to say about this, sorry to say. It's just generally messy--both in terms of a plot line that should have been streamlined, and in terms of its treatment of its char

Adriana Review: How I wish I could have liked this book more. I didn't want to just like this book. I wanted to love this book. The whole premise of the story is of personal interest to me, as my own grandparents would have been small children somewhere in Mérida (or possibly Tizimín) at the time the historic events of the novel took place. Unfortunately, I just was not able to connect with the characters.

The story was intriguing enough to keep me reading to the end, but it lacked depth. It's like I was given t

Gordon Ehler Review: Interesting perspective in this novel. Good, but the pace was slower than I prefer and the ending somewhat of a letdown. Love the time period and the author's insights from a woman's point-of-view.

Lola Reviewer Review:
People aren’t just one thing. They never, ever are.

Thing is… we already know this, so we really, really, don’t need this book to prove it to us.

There is a villain.
There is a hero.
There is a liar.

And this book wants you to figure out who is who. But if you refer to the quote above, you realize that there’s no need to do that, since there is no point in labelling the characters – after all, no one is who they seem to be.

Reading this book felt like a waste of time.
