Francoise McKay Review: Pauline Gedge, as usual, is probably the best writer of "Egyptian Fiction". Her characters and scenes are equisitely detailed, whether she writes in the third or first person. House of Illusions continues the story of Thu, and her son, who were separated under edict of Rameses III. The ending and events, although near the end were rather fantastical and almost predictable. If you have not read Lady of the Reeds, then you probably would not enjoy this book as much, but as sequels go, it is quite

Theediscerning Review: He's always been a source of trouble, has Superbrat - able to diminish generations of comics history by being, well, shit. But here he is a different kind of trouble, as is a panoply of oddsville characters that aren't what they seem, and a weird Venom-styled gloop. It's a hokum story, padded out to an inordinate six episodes, and still managing to leave some bits of key explanation on the cutting room floor. You'll like as not have to look for a wiki on the big bad when he turns up, too. A one-

Di Review: Jack has a haunting past and has holed himself from civilization in the mountains with no real human contact for ten years. Avery has been the good girl all her life so when she finds out disturbing news on her wedding day, she runs. Unfortunately she crashes but luckily Jack is there to save her. Jack is all rough and tumble and Avery is all shy and meek but it all changes as they spend time together and bring out the best in each other. But it could all come to an end if her ex fiancée finds h

Vegantrav Review: I don't think I've disliked a protagonist as much as Nora, the main character in In a Dark, Dark Wood, in ages. Earlier this year, I found Rachel, the protagonist of The Girl on the Train, to be annoying and very unlikable, but I didn't hate her.

To be fair, I didn't hate Nora so much as find myself repulsed by her. She is a 26-year-old woman who is still haunted by and distraught over a break-up that happened when she was 16. Yes, 16! What kind of loser is so affected by an adolescent relations

Apokripos Review:
Blurring Realities
(A Book Review of Ilustrado by Miguel Syjuco)

Ilustrado is the ambitious and exceptionally complicated debut novel by Miguel Syjuco that won the Palanca Grand Prize for the Novel Category in 2008 and the prestigious Man Asian Literary Prize later that year when it was still in manuscript form.

Since news of his prodigious success came out, I can’t help but feel elated, for his triumph is as much ours; his breakthrough is a vindication of sorts on our much neglected and often be
